The Galveston County Sheriff's Academy is a 37 hour block of instruction designed to give the attendees a working knowledge of the Sheriff's Office structure and function and law enforcement in general. The academy is 12 weeks with classes held Monday evenings for 7pm to 10pm. Enrollment is limited to 50 participants. All attendees must be at least 16 years of age. Deputies, supervisors and personnel with specialized expertise as well as the Criminal District Attorney., US Marshall's office, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will provide instruction.
The academy is designed to provide detailed information to the citizens of Galveston County concerning the role of the Sheriff's Office within our community. It is also the goal of the academy to increase law enforcement awareness and to forge partnerships between law enforcement and the community through educational process. This allows the Sheriff's Office to be more aware of the feelings and concerns of the community. The academy is truly a two-way learning experience. This exciting course is free!!
